As I continue to explore shared history through quilting, I’ve gone beyond the more traditional methods of using vintage fabrics, old quilts and clothing and turned to the precious things our grandmothers made; lace doilies, embroidered handkerchiefs, tatted pillow cases and delicately crocheted afghans. I take these bits and combine them using hand and machine sewing, quilting, knitting and crochet. Building on the concept of a crocheted “granny square”, I am working in small sections and then piecing them together to create a larger work.
